We have it - not with Verizon, but with Straighttalk. $15/month and yes, it is portable. (Straighttalk uses Verizon service in our area, so as long as we have a Verizon tower, we have home phone service). It works off cell signal. As long as you have cell service, you have home phone service and it can go anywhere. We camp host in VA as well as MD state parks and we take our box with us. When we get set up, we plug it in and answer our phone, just like we were at our house. We have never used it while moving down the road because our base must have power. We have our cell phones, so don't really need it.
We get caller id with ours, no extra charge.
