You are correct, you won't find GPS in a laptop. There are a lot of nice tablets out there, with GPS, that have attachable/detachable keyboards, but they are smaller than a 15" screen. You can buy a USB based GPS antenna and the use some double stick tape and Velcro to attach it to the cover of your laptop
4GB of RAM is NOT enough to run Windows 10 efficiently. Fine for Linux. And forget about $400 unless you can find a used one (off lease). Skip the optical drive (get one that plugs into a USB port). While you probably won't find a laptop configured with a SSD, this is the best investment you can make ! Install a 256 GB SSD (Samsung EVO Pro) and buy an external drive housing for the drive you remove.
Anyone who knows the right end of a screwdriver can swap in a SSD. Just take your time.
