The trend in laptops is thinner and lighter and most no longer have optical drives, buy an external one if necessary. They also can't be upgraded under warranty, including no access. So buy enough memory and drive capability. You'll also find that laptops often have integrated video, separate video is more likely in a desktop.
SSD drives are available in laptops but not likely at a $400 price point. Look at the port types like USB 3.0, etc. At least 8GB ram for W10 and 12GB if shared by the video was my minimum.
I found everything I wanted in a laptop from Costco online. 2 year warranty plus 2 years using the Costco CC, ie 4 years, in store the same. I ordered it and that started the build process in China so I had to wait.
