Looking for suggestions on new DVD AM/FM stereo

This past weekend a lightning storm took out our RCA all in one AM/FM CD DVD player in our 5th. It worked very well up to that point, so I may just try and replace it with the same. (It is a regular electronics piece, NOT something like a Jensen that fits into a particular spot)

But I was wondering if anyone has any upgrade ideas.

Another combination system would be great, especially if there is one with bluray.

It would need to fit into a space about 6 inches by 18 inches.
It would need to have surround sound and HDMI output.

  • I'm running a new Sony Home Theater system on older 4 ohm speakers to that were installed by the MH manufacturer without any problem. I just keep the volume at a reasonable level and monitor the receiver heat. Unless you like to blast the music you should be fine. There's lots of info out there on speaker impedance and what it means. I try not to relay on store salesmen.
  • Appreciated the input.

It is a home theater type.

Went to Best Buy and checking out the systems and what I had, we were told it would be difficult to match up a different system with the existing speakers.

Noticed he was right. My current system was 3 and 4 ohm (depending on the speaker). It was a cheap system, so the speakers would probably blow and should be replaced first. Just a big expense, though no doubt a better sounding system could be installed.

However, I just happened to check craigslist and low and behold, the same theater system just happened to be available locally for $30. It works. So for now, no upgrade. If I was full timing, I would look to do more.

I do appreciate the advice though.

Is this an automotive type or a home theater type?

    www.crutchfield.com in either case

or JRmusic in NYC both have a good selection.

You can also go to crutchfield.com and get a good idea of what's out there.
  • I just went through what you are due to a mis wired pedestal.
When I went to replace the Home theater in a box system I found out Best Buy and 3 outher electronic stores did not have one that fit in my cabinet.

I settled on a Jensen DV2011 that I found on Amazon.

Since then Jensen has come out with a JWM990 that would have fit. I priced it out through Forest River. They wanted over $900.00 Priced it direct with ASA Electronics. They wanted over $450.00.

  • When my no name system failed in my 5er I took measurements of my fairly limited space available and went to Best Buy. The had several different models of home theater systems from several different manufacturers. I bought a Panasonic home theater system as it most easily fit my space available. It has all you list except AM. But they also had Sony, Samsung, RCA, and another I think.
