My problem is that I live in the desert, north of Los Angeles, and in the shadow of the local mountains. We cannot receive any OTA stuff but one Mexican transponder, and we live more than four miles from our local Verizon switchroom (1.3MB Max!), so we're stuck with DirecTV.
Learned to live with it on the road, and it ain't too bad, except for the monthly sting. Ouch! $150!
