Finally, I noticed on the keyboard a key with a WIFI tower icon. I thought NO WAY! I held down the FN key and pressed the WIFI tower icon. EUREKA, WIFI WORKED. She has no idea how she had managed to hit the FN key and that WIFI tower key at the same time.
The only good that came from that was that the old WIFI card was B/G and the new card was B/G/N.
This is exactly what happened to me. I've had that laptop for years, but never noticed that wifi key.
