I totally agree. I have been using pc's since they came out and have very few problems and most are easily remedied. My brother bought a mac and hated it. Never gave them a second look after glancing at the price tag.

My 5 year old $249.00 Acer netbook windows PC, started to slow down. I used free AVG Antivirus. I finally decided to upgrade to McAfee. Scanned and found...and fixed some problems. It killed my browser. Numerous reloads, and problems. Thought I might try a Mac too. Disabled the web link protection and all is well. If I get a Virus, a periodic McAfee scan will resolve it. A Mac is a good computer. And maybe a little less trouble. I am not ready to make that jump just yet.

My MacBook Pro is going on 6 years old and still going strong. I love the Mac although the Numbers spreadsheet program is nowhere as good or user friendly as Excel.

I have a cheapo mini that runs Windows that I use for financial websites (it has never been connected to an unsecured website). I hate using it as Windows is such a PIA compared to apple's OSX operating system.

I worked in corporate IT from 1997 through the end of 2008 - with computers since 81 before going into IT full time. My job involved integrating new computers into the systems, making new apps work, OS upgrades, Office suite upgrades - etc.

I never have problems with my computers - and I worked on Macs since 89. We had a couple hundred in the company, along with 9,000 PCs/laptops. I was the Mac guy go-to guy in the company.

Never owned a Mac, and am not really in love with them. They are good computers, but a slightly different design and operation concept.

However, my wife - sitting in the other recliner - always has problems with her computers. Which I get to fix.

Yes, she has a laptop and a desktop - and they are HERS. Some great advice for a good marriage I found in a science fiction book in the early 60 - "Make sure she has her own desk and keep your hands off of it." Applies to computers.

After my time in the cubical world, working with several hundred people over the years - I've decided computer users are like automobile owners.

Some folks understand how the things work, take pleasure in making theirs better and keeping it in great shape.

Some folks don't. What they want is the car to start when they turn the key and to never have to learn more about taking care of it.

Guess which group is frustrated and which group is happy.

I've been using Apples/Macs for over 20 years, just replaced my 6-year old Mac laptop with a new one, and passed my old one, which still works fine, just a bit slower than I'd like, down to my kids. I tried a PC for a couple years in there somewhere, but had too many problems with it, so went back to Mac. Might take you a bit to get used to the difference, but Macs have very few problems, ever.

I've been using PC's since they first came on the market. Now retired from IT so only supporting is for my own and for friends.

Virus - install anti-virus - been using AVG for more than 10 years.

System slowing - install System Mechanic. Like magic the machine runs the way it did new.

Works like a charm - no problems.

I highly suggest you visit an Apple store and talk with one of their staff before you rush into buying one. I switched back to Macs in 2007, and never looked back. I'd spent a lot of time with Microsoft as an MVP and been part of several of their large product beta programs. I started off on Macs in the early 80s but the change in 2007 was a challenge, as they do operate differently from a mental how to perspective.

If you are going to buy one, look at their Refurbs they offer. They come with the same warranty as a new one, but can shave 20% off the price or more. I bought my 2007 iMac on the refurb site, finally 2 months ago the power supply die, but had it replaced in a day and running great. One thing I like about my mac is it runs just as fast, if not faster now under Mavricks then it did when it was new. I can't say that about any of the 2007 Windows machines at work.

I've been living with a Dell M90 Laptop for the past many years. Got two of them from a OFF-LEASE site. $500-600... They came all loaded up with programs and work great. One still had the DELL Warranty left on it... These are no longer on the market now and are replaced by the M6500 series high-end LAPTOPS...

These are using the Microsoft XP-PRO operating system and I am just hearing this will no longer be updated by Microsoft after July 2014.

Will probably update to WINDOWs 7

These work with the DELL DOCKING stations and I have both RV and Home OFFICE setup much the same. Just unplug LAPTOP from one place and plug into the other. All ops pretty much the same at both locations... Very seldom open the laptops up as they run on external monitors and keyboard connected to the docking station ports. My same LAPTOP goes where I go.... About the only difference between the home setup and the RV setup is the speed of the internet. I use the Verizon MIFI setup for internet with the RVs...

I use a PC at work and a MacBook Pro at home. Bought the MacBook in the fall of 2008. Been through 3 desktop PC's in the office during that time. The Mac was more expensive up front, but it looks and runs like the day it was new. Two of my 3 PC's over that same period, are now in some landfill.

Unless you are a power MS OFFICE user, I'd say the Mac is your best option. Even then, you CAN run Windows on a MAC if necessary.
