So for that reason I will continue to beat the drum in hopes that I can make someones life on the internet a little easier. If you don't like my posts, just ignore them as I don't plan on giving up on my quest to make life a little easier for anyone willing to listen. Anyone interested in learning how easy it is to setup a Linux machine can PM me and I will try my best to help.

I question your expertise if a machine you set up was continually infected with viruses and malware. Of all the machines that I've set up there has been one infection about 6 years ago on a box used by a teenager.

The people that I know that have embaced a Unix variant for a desktop are all computer enthusiasts some fo whom work in IT.

A mainstream machine - Windows or Apple will reliably do the jobs that the vast majority of people desire.

Why wouldn't your IT guy tell you what he did for your money?

I let Windows 7 handle the updates and haven't had any issues. I use a paid for AV and Firewall, never been infected or hacked. I'd really want to know what he did and why he blamed MS updates.

As said there hasn't been any additional updates for MS since 7/10 with one exception which was the "Windows Malicious Software removal Tool" on 7/28.

I don't understand the "move to a new OS" answers as the end all to every problem.

There is free help online over at Windows Seven Forums join the group at no cost and benefit from IT professionals from around the world.

But Windows 7 is much better than XP which is still used by half of the population of the world right now.
Outlook and IE are Petri dishes.
Anyway it's your money, not mine.

I never made the claim that I was an expert. That is the true beauty of Linux. It doesnt require special knowledge to set it up or use it. Unlike Windows it will automatically find and setup your hardware such as network, scanners, printers. etc. You don't have to find drivers or do any setup. It just happens. As for his machine getting infected, any machine can and most likely will get infected if you have no reguard as to where you go or what you do. Anyone who would like to try it can either download a copy from their web site, or if you don't feel comfortable doing that you can go to the bookstore such as Barnes and Noble and buy an issue of Linux Format which will come with a DVD with the latest version. To try it without installing it, just drop it in the drive and it will load and set itself up in memory. This way you can try it and if its not for you, pull the disk out and reboot and no changes will be made to your machine. Of course because its running in memory its speed is related to how much memory is available. In most cases it will run about as fast that way as windows and much faster if installed. Updates to the system will popup most every day unlike Microsoft that only makes updates available weeks or months after a problem has been found.

Linux is not for everyone. Accept that and move on.

We accept that! Find that Control panel uninstall and system restore solve a lot. Along with antimalware and an AV program. Win 7 lives!!!

Kind of funny, the OP writes about Windows problem and then starting with the second post it's recommended that he move to another OS. Then in the 5th, 6th, 8th, 10th, 14th and 17th posts again the changing the OS is still argued as the answer.

I wonder who is on the one way street here.

It's my opinion the greatest cause of most problems with any computer, no matter the OS, is generally located between the keyboard and the chair.

I agree! Since this topic is specific to a WIN 7 issue, and not about alternatives to Windows OS, then let's just focus on Windows.

If only that could actually happen! Apple, Linux and "whatever" users simply do not have that kind of self control. Once you drink that grape juice there's just no way to keep to yourself.;)
