Microsofts guaranteed new virus blocker

Just installed some new updates for Win7, and they blocked LAN and wireless connectivity. Had to take the tower to the office and pay the IT guy on the side to disable the problem software. It was something about ID shortcut, he didn't want to tell me too much. What fun those Microsoft guys are.
  • Back to the original post, it may not be a Windows problem. Earlier this year there was a MacAfee update that broke a lot of network connections.
  • It doesn't sound like a Windows problem after rereading the post. Sounds like the problem was with the software that he disabled. A lot of companies aren't as diligent as they should be when it comes to updating software/drivers.

That may be the case, but the OP mentioned a Windows update which is where the issue first appeared?

I agree! Since this topic is specific to a WIN 7 issue, and not about alternatives to Windows OS, then let's just focus on Windows.

If only that could actually happen! Apple, Linux and "whatever" users simply do not have that kind of self control. Once you drink that grape juice there's just no way to keep to yourself.;)

Sure it can. It's called the Mod post delete function, and has already been used twice since I last posted the message.

    True.

Come to think of it, some hardware drivers are also included with Windows Update, usually video drivers, and keyboard/mice drivers. However it could have been a driver for his LAN card which broke the software? I never let Windows handle my hardware driver update just to be on the safe side. I don't remember any problems caused by Windows Update with Windows 7 on any machine I'm responsible for. Just lucky I guess?
  • OP here, wow some detour signs went up on this road. He quickly discovered what was blocking connections and disabled it so that future updates wouldn't repeat the process. I loaded the updates 7/13, and I wasn't in any hurry as we have other 'puters to use. None of which are Win7. We were extremely busy with customers when he stopped by, and for $20 he didn't hang around to chit chat. It was beyond my abilities, and the purpose of the post was both a tongue in cheek poke at MS and a warning to others.
