I have T-mobile and AT&T. I have never found a place where AT&T had a signal and T-mob did not -- except Yosemite Valley.
In the west, they generally have signal in every city, most towns, and along every major highway, and generally have about a 50% chance of coverage in national forests and such. There are definitely exceptions.
