Maybe you are ordering the wrong Netgear hotspot/MiFi, but no router required as the device IS a router. Connects up to 15 devices. If you want/need Ethernet connections then you will need a router but you will lose 1/2 your speed using the wireless connection to the hard wired router. It's all about choices.
