Mohu Leaf Antenna

I will be watching this thread. I am seriously thinking about getting the big one for my attic in the stick and brick. If that works well perhaps the small one for the motor home will help cure the money drain there as well, although it seems much of the time we are too far away for much OTA reception.

A week ago I bought 2 - Winegard FlatWave Amped antennas for $22 each from 1saleaday.com.

I have one at home and reception is so-so. I live on the outskirts of Kansas City with most of the TV transmitter towers within 25 miles. On some channels, the leaf does fine, on others it drops reception if you walk in front of the antenna. I just saw this style of Antenna at my local Costco.
Not sure of the brand. It was Black in color.
And was Amplified. And was $40.

I have the Winegard Brand that I also got at Costco about 1/2 year ago.
Seems to work OK in my MH, but have not tested it that well.
I carry it as a spare in case something happens to my Batwing.

Looking at it, I know they claim "Best HD Antenna" but 1: I see that a lot and 2: I do not in the least believe it... Since I've seen with my own eyes antennas that outperform that one by major distances.

I'll stick with my crank up Full blown Winegard Batwing+Wingman+Sensar Pro. better than that for RV use is not likely going to happen.

You will even find plans for building your own. I tried it and liked the reception so I bought two of them.

I have the same antenna as the Mohu made by Winegard (shown above in a reply). When tested against my Winegard Sensar crank up, there was no comparison. Far more channels with the Winegard. They say "omnidirectional" but you still have to turn it and still don't get all of the available channels in an area. If you have no alternative, then it will pull in channels but I was not getting major networks while at the same time was getting the foreign language channels with the thin antenna.

haven't tried one of these but unless you do your camping in areas that are in very close proximity to TV transmission towers I wouldn't waste my money.

a TV transmission signal is RF....radio frequency...and is, generally, line-of-sight. we're camping in relatively small (as in height above ground) metallic or fiberglass boxes in campgrounds and parks in, usually, rural areas, surrounded by trees, hills, etc. many RVers are having enough problems getting a good signal using an amplified antenna that is elevated above the camper. why would an antenna located inside that camper deliver a better signal to the TV receiver? if you live in an apartment in the city or even a close-in suburb and don't have/can't erect an outdoor antenna then the Mohu Leaf antenna might be the answer otherwise I'd take a pass.

Your 17 dollars is about what those are worth .

I have seen ones like them (not sure if it was a 2 or 4 bowtie) for 100 at FMCA rallies.... (How many ways can you spell SCAMMERS) and folks were buying them

They are good at UHF and the more bowties the better.. But not so good for VHF, and where I am parked today the #1 Channel uses broadcast channel 7 (VHF High band) and is not all that strong, so that bow tie would be useless.

But then... I research that kind of thign (And know how to build a really good chan 7 antenna if I have to).

Those "flat" designs do nothing more than a piece of coat hanger would do..

You can build your own similar antenna for PENNIES and it will easily out perform the design above.

HERE is the instructions to make a PROPER "stacked" bowtie antenna. The Wingard design and I would suspect any "flat" antenna design is not a proper "stacked" design. They look more like a RANDOM wire design.

Save your money, send them back and get a refund, not worth the price which is charged for them.

Heck, you used to get a simple UHF Bow antenna for FREE when you bought a portable TV, I would bet they work just as well as that $70 antenna...
