Getting back to the original question, it depends of which HDTV you buy to use as a monitor. I'm guessing, most of your work on your notebook will primarily involve text. However, most HDTV use digital processing specific to optimize motion video. Also, over scanning can further degrade the image as the pixel mapping won't necessarily be a 1:1 ratio. Both of which can cause text to not display as clear as it would on a computer monitor when using the HDTV HDMI inputs.
You'll need to set up your notebook for best display on an HDTV. First, make sure to set your notebook graphics to match the native resolution of the HDTV. Preferable, both supporting 1920x1080 natively.
Second, disable over scan in your graphics card control panel.
Some HDTV further support inputting PC through HDMI option which can set the display optimized for a computer, and not for video.
