Moving Photos Email to Picasa

step 1: Get the photo out of email. Either with a download button or drag it out. Most email programs and web mail apps (i.e. gmail) support dragging the photo out.

step 2: As AsheGuy says, tell Picasa to watch a particular folder.

There is no such thing as a Picasa folder for photos, it manages photos in the folders you tell it to. If you just let it use its defaults, it's probably using the My Pictures folder in Windows. To check where it looks for photos and the ability to change those defaults look in its Folder Manager. Click on Tools at the top of Picasa and then Folder Manager. In this image, you can see that I am not using the default My Pictures folder but a Photos folder on my E: drive.


A photo jpeg file can be attached to emails or embedded in them as has been mentioned above.

If they are attached, they go to the default location your email program uses when you click on download. In Gmail for example, that is controlled in its Settings under the Download section. Other email programs have similar settings.

If embedded, right clicking on a photo and then clicking on Save As gives you control of what folder they go to.

In either case, you must understand where the photos go to allow you to set Picasa Folder Manager settings appropriately.

Yeah.. once they're downloaded to your computer, they can go anywhere. It's just a file.

I can't follow why the OP kept trying to work with them in his email.

Here's how I do it
At the bottom of my gmail I chose, download attachments
This also works with Yahoo, or did the last time I used it
The are save into my pc, in the downloads folder
From there I can copy or move them where ever I want
I normally use irfanview for my photo copying resizing etc
If I want to get more complicated I will use gimp or photo shop
essentials
I liked the original picassa a lot more than I do the current version

Generally using picassa for a simple file save from an email is a giant Pita

A lot easier to do it the other way

Maybe this will help... Picasa doesn't STORE photos - it CATEGORIZES photos you already have stored on your machine... So you can copy/paste the photo in the email to a desktop folder that you create - maybe call it "photos from emails" - when you open the Picasa program it will usually automatically look for any new .jpg files, etc to categorize them. The BEST source of "How To" with Picasa is "Geeks on Tour" - Chris and her hubby have a book specifically about using Picasa and they teach classes at rallies, etc on this. Certainly worth a visit to their website!!! ST

We're not sure either. Glad it worked.

Are you trying to save them to your Picasa file on your computer or your online file? If on your computer just do a right click and save as then save it to the location on your C: drive that all your other photos are in. Then when you launch Picasa it should automatically import it into the program. If you mean your online file, do the same thing but when it imports into Picasa you need to upload to move it to the online files.

Not sure what is confusing you guys. I just got an Email from my niece which had old family fotos attached. I was trying to move those photos to my Picasa file so I wouldn't lose them. Not that easy to do. You cannot copy and past with Picasa, I know that much. That rigamarole I described did work, nothing else did.

This is too weird. I opened an email that included a pic just for funsies. I right clicked the photo and chose copy. Then opened several different photo type programs that I use and they all let me "paste" the photo where I wanted it....all but Picasa..there was no "
paste" option. So I went back to the email photo, right clicked and chose "save as", then to the Picasa was given the option to "give the file a name and save".HMMMM

He not only said it was 'attached', he said he downloaded it. Perhaps 'downloaded' is something different from what I understand it to be.
