I've had a SSD fail on a new laptop. When they die, they die fast, and you will not be recovering anything from it when it gives up the ghost since the disk controller encrypts everything.
This is why I like having a "3-2-1" method of backups. Three copies, two on different media, one offsite.
At home, I have a Synology NAS which I use Veeam Endpoint (the free version) to back up to. The NAS also copies all the data to an external drive, and to Amazon Drive (since it offers unlimited storage.)
I also use Mozy with a custom encryption key so documents get stashed offsite.
This way, if I have to restore on the road, I can either log into my home desktop and pull the files, or log onto Mozy for a restore.
