Biggest issue with using Cloud storage is the need for reasonably fast network access. Trying to access your Cloud data over some campground's "WIFI" connection can be an exercise in futility. That leaves your cellular data plan. How much are you willing to pay to run you backups to the Cloud and to do a restore if that ever would be needed. My backups take 280GB compressed. I do not want to think what Verizon would charge me if I had to do a restore on the road.
I have an SSD in my MacBook, an external SSD for backups that I keep with me when I travel, and a RAID10 NAS system at home that holds my backup of last resort.
