My Wifi Posts have been wrong!! I admit it.

The biggest difference between McDonalds and CGs is that very few people sit all day at McDonalds. Sure here and there you will find someone who does, but it's not the norm. People at CGs are sitting all day and using the WiFi.

It is not just computers hogging the bandwidth. All those smart phones and tablets with the WIFI turned on are a real problem. For example on a phone if it is used to connect to the WIFI and the WIFI on the phone is left one, the phone stays connected - taking up space ont he system.

It's actually very easy to do. If they have commercial grade system. I've never looked into Megabytes per day, but limiting the rate they consume so everyone can share is very easy.

BUT, I can see how much each user has used and dump them from my system anytime I wish.

Update: just looked into limiting x number of megabytes per users and yes it can be done as long as your system supports it. Mine does. I think I'll limit my wife and see what she thinks.

A couple of clicks and it's all done.



Most wifi and routers are set up wrong.

Campgrounds could provide good internet if they would just take a little time and limit the amount of bandwidth each users gets, some do, but it's so rare.

If I can limit users in my home (although i do have an enterprise quality wifi) then yes they can do it. They just have to stop buying an off the shelf router and putting in the office.

I have camping friends who have no problem jumping on the internet and start streaming TV and movies.

I do lots of downloads at McDonalds as my own connections to the wobbly wide web total 20 gigs per month. If the cell phone companies in Canada would offer a truly unlimited package, I would be the first in line to sign up.

McDonalds WIFI does work fine if you are inside or close to the building.

They don't have to deal with trees, RV's, and distance, requiring repeaters.

Several private parks in Canada do this. That way they can advertise FREE WIFI and also charge for it at the same time.

You get your 10mb and 15 minutes free per day, over that it is $$$/hour and XXmb max per 24 hours.
