It is the best tool I could get. It took all the guessing out of the equation. If you are using the old 18"oval dish, you can attach it like the picture. On the new HD dishes, you will need to work in four ways given that the material of the dish contains tons of ferrous material and does alter the Compass:
1- Survey the site looking thru the Align a Site and find a spot to put the Tripod.
2- Make sure the Tripod is PLUMB (Vertical). I use a Bulls Eye Level on the Tripod itself.
3- Place the Dish on the Tripod and holding the Align A Site on your hand (about 18" behind the Dish), check the approximate direction of the LNB Arm (Azimuth) and elevation. Now attach the Align A Site to the Dish to make sure you are hitting a clear spot without obstruction and the bubbles are in the middle (inclination and elevation set on Align A Site). Move it a bit side ways as well as up and down to make sure you have room for fine tuning.
4- Fine tune the Elevation, Azimuth and if HD, Inclination.
In order to make my life easier, I also bought a Sat Finder that professionals use that identifies the satellite once you hit it. I am a crazy hockey fan and I need to have my fix (San Jose Sharks games) no matter what. with this combination I can set my portable 5 LNB HD DTV in less than 5 minutes if I am not able to use my Roof Dish.
Good luck and enjoy
