I have a Core i7 MacBook Air and I use a Samsung external DVD drive to load programs etc. I also have a WD 1TB external portable HDD. You could load Windows on a separate partition using bootcamp or use Parallels Desktop 8 or VMware Fusion 5 virtualisation software.
