Now that you mention APN settings, when I switch from Canadian Sim to US sim I have to change settings in the hotspot from my tablet.
I haven't done it in a while so it is foggy right now and I am not heading to the US anytime soon.
On the hotspot go to settings,then support. mine has Unite Manager and the url to use. So yours should have something like boostunite.
Put that into the search bar and you should geta screenthat has a settings tab on the left. Choose settings This will bring up 4 new tabs.
Choose Network, then APN. You should see the Carriers.
Make the carrier whose sim you have in the hotspot Active and you should be good to go.
