Ok. Everything is slow with a slow connection. I guess for the average Joe who has one email account and a decent connection, a client is a bit of overkill.
I would tend to agree in general. However I can think of many scenarios where having local email would be important, even decent connections go out.
In the end everyone has to decide for themselves what features they want, interface they like..etc. It's why we have so many options ;-)
