New laptop for an old guy

I am looking to replace my old Compaq laptop with Windows vista. It is very slow and the screen is cracked at the hinge area. I have looked at a number of the new ones and tried to understand what all the specs mean. From what I have concluded an Intel I5 chip with 4 gb of ram and 500 g of storage would be good enough for surfing the net, email, and enough storage for pictures. I found a HP Pavilion 15_ab165us at Staples on sale for $ 449. It has an I5 chip 5th generation,6gb ram and a terabite of storage. Does anyone know anything about this laptop? Does the price seem good for what it has in it?

I finally got all of our OLD computers replaced with top of the line HP and DELL LAPTOPS from QVC and HSN deals on TV. They all came with lots of added things and has the 5-6 no interest payments... Prices are just a bit more than you are quoting...

Our game plan is using the LAPTOPs and having nice dual monitors setup here at home and in the RV's... Made sense for us to just grab the LAPTOP and hit the road...

We are setup good for LAPTOPs and TABLETS etc while on the camping roads...

The new LAPTOPs are sure different now then they were just a few years back...
  • Go for the HP at Staples. The price is reasonable and it has 6GB of RAM. RAM is your friend.

Yes, that laptop is adequate for your needs, and that is a reasonable price.

If you are a Costco member, there is a Dell with the same exact specs for $429. Their concierge service is great for tech support.
I am a member and just went online and saw a Dell for $429 and had 4 gb of ram is that the one you are referring to?
  • I have an hp, a toshiba and a dell. Liked the hp, it had the power cord issue after about 7 yrs. Still works. Had a dell that had the hard drive go. Loved it. Next was a toshiba, hate it. Replaced it with another dell before it was a year old. Love it so far.
  • You can be certain that whatever you buy will be ten times faster and more powerful than your old laptop.

  • I prefer Toshiba. However, given the specs that seems to be a decent buy. I would not get anything below i5 chip.
