the sat and cable companies do this every "contract" renewal
they want the Network broadcasters to pay them more money to carry their programing or maybe its they have too pay the networks and the networks want more
the networks were in existence FIRST and they have the big advertiser revenue
showtime and all the rest were created by the cable companies to compete with the networks, to offer something the networks didn't have
this public combat over contracts.. is a MAcho positioning display by both sides
