X2, or is it 3, or 4, for Libre Office.

Depending on what you do with it, you can also use Google Docs, Drive and Calendar- though you have to use Chrome browser for offline work. Microsoft also has a free web apps version- http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/web-apps/.

I got a new Windows 7 computer a year ago and it has Office Starter installed and have been using it free for a year. It does have Windows promotions/ads down the right side of the screen. Does everything I need to do with Word and Excel. Does have some other features I have not used.

Office is a business tool.
As such it is not overpriced.
You can run a publishing, accounting business with it
For home use, yes it's expensive.
Why the love affair with this bloated software?

I am about to buy a new Tosh.. I'm going to ask the seller (Staples) to remove OFFICE,, I use Sun open office.. way more flexible and does everything I want.

Same with some other trial ware, I'll ask them to kill it off or I'll do it myself soon as I plug it in

Fact MS office IS NOT IN THE CLOUD! Office 2007, 2010, and 2013 are all stand alone apps. MS also offers a cloud based app called Office 365 by subscription. The current office version for your home PC is Office 2013. And, yes it's overpriced.

I was able to load Office XP and Office 2003 on Win 7, so try loading it on Win 8. MS will tell you it will not work - even on Win 7, but it works just fine for me. The new Office is "in the cloud" and not on your computer. Not very good if you are without wifi somewhere.

Libre Office and Open Office are basically the same software. Libre is a carry forward of Open Office continuing to be developed by the original Open Office programmers. Both work well as an alternative to MS Office - completely compatible with all current and old Office files - and the best part is it is free!

Libre Office, Apache Open Office, just some alternatives that work almost the same as MS Office and are free. I Like Libre Office better, though I use both from time to time. MS stuff just got too expensive to make it practical for a "sometime" user like me. Give them a look and see what you think.
