Outrageous Shipping

I recently found a light fixture for our bathroom at the Mesa, AZ store. Since I didn't see the item on any shelf I went to the checkout counter and asked if they had it in stock and was told it was a special order and I had to go to the desk to order it. Imagine my surprise when I was told that the shipping for my $60 "special order" light was going to be $32! I actually thought that this might be an installed price. It wasn't. The light weighs 3.21 pounds and the manufacturer/distributor is in Holland, Mi so I am wondering why the high shipping charges? Why can't I have this shipped to the store and avoid any shipping charges? Thanks in advance for any help.

  • Hello aguablanco,

I apologize about this experience. Please send me a private message with your contact info, name, and I will be happy to forward this over to my Leadership Team for review. I really appreciate your time.

  • yep, there have been a couple of small/light items, maybe an ounce that I wanted to order but it was $6 or so?? just stuff it in a bubble pack and mail it would be dirt cheap.

  • I try and support Camping World whenever possible. HOWEVER, they have turned the corner from a great company to the "profit at all costs" shabby business model. I went in to buy a part for my Thetford toilet. The part was $16 plus tax and the shipping was $13! It weighed about 9 oz. or so. I ordered the part because of my desire to support the company. Same price on Amazon plus free 2 day shipping with Prime. I will not purchase major parts from CW again and I am seriously rethinking my dedication to companies who use screws in their treatment of customers.
  • And you dont get any tracking info or updates unless you call or email.

CW should take a look at how Amazon and everyone else does online sales.
  • Must be using a next day shipping? Could you have asked who the shipper was and asked if there were alternatives?
  • CW is not the only culprit. Last year I went with my son to the Sears Parts store in Phoenix to get a bulb for the overhead light on his stove. It was not in stock and the price was $12.00 plus $15.00 shipping to the parts store. Needless to say it was not purchased there.
  • We try and do the same and support CW and up to a few years ago we did purchase from them online or from the B&M stores until they began upping their shipping charges beyond ridiculous. We still renew our Good Sam membership, rarely do we get any savings out of it since we don't do private parks much.

Use primarily Amazon and Walmart, they will ship anything to their stores for free. Something CW should be doing as it will certainly increase foot traffic in their B&M stores. I always seem to buy something else every time I go to pick-up something from Wally's ship to store dept.
  • I have been in contact with Glenn who assures me that someone from corporate will be contacting me soon to see how this can be resolved. I really appreciated the quick response and am hopeful that this will be resolved quickly. I will post updates as they happen.

  • So,here's my update. I was contacted by a rep from CW whose only comment was to explain to me that a special order means that the item in question is not in stock. No reference to the exorbitant shipping charge. The funny thing is I discovered that CW is selling the exact same fixture on ebay for only $7.53 shipping. Apparently there is a penalty for ordering direct from the local store. Two of my update posts to this thread have been deleted by mods for sharing the internal communication from the CW rep. This one probably won't be up long either. I have bought my last item from CW. The Internet has better pricing and shipping.
