Oxymoron satellite question

No, there really is not a more affordable roof mounted antenna. The Playmaker can be converted to a roof mount unit with a $49 kit which provides a different set of feet.
Look around on the internet, especially PPL Motorhomes and other discount sites for the best pricing. Any automatic roof mounted antenna is going to be $500 or more if I remember correctly.

Thanks Bill for answering a question I didn't even know how to ask. Lol. I am not familiar with either satellite you recommended. Do you have first hand knowledge of either? Just trying to purchase the smallest, best performing, most reliable HD Dome on the market.

On edit I just checked the two you mentioned . The T4 is too $pendy and the other is portable only. Could you recommend a more affordable roof mount?

Dish uses 3 different satellites. Your Trav'ler could "see" all 3 satellites at the same time with the multiple LNB setup.
The dome style antenna have only 1 LNB inside and the software must move that 1 LNB to point to the satellite where the programming is located. That means that as long as you are only using 1 single tuner receiver you will not have any problems. However, if you want to use a DVR or more than 1 receiver you will likely run into conflicts when 1 receiver wants to view programming from the 119 satellite and the other wants to view programming from the 129 satellite. With only 1 LNB under the dome, this is impossible.
As long as you are happy with a single tuner receiver (even with the added hard driver and DVR function) then the dome will work just fine without issue.

Thanks guys for the recommendations. I definitely need small and want HD. I know you can only get HD from a dome with Dish. I am in the minority as I have owned and hated the Trav'ler as it was $pendy and failed in less than 3 years. When it was working it was great, when it wasn't.... well. Could someone explain what is meant when referencing certain channels on different satellites switching . Sorry not exactly sure how to ask what I'm asking. Lol. Simpler put do you have a lag when changing channels if the channel is on a different satellite? Whew .

Fixed? As in roof mounted? If so then I would suggest the Winegard Playmaker. You must use a 211 series receiver but it's small, 14.3" diameter, and easy to use.
It is Dish only so you can't change your mind later. The Winegard Road Trip T4 will work with other receivers and can be changed from Dish to DirecTV at will. Either one should do an excellent job.

Winegard has a ladder mount for the Carryout if you Class B has a ladder. I use one on my Class A.

I have a Winegard Pathway X2. Its a little bigger than a Tailgater but it has a bigger reflector so works better in rain, etc.

DISH has two sets of sats; the eastern arc and the western arc, which are in different areas of the sky. I most of the US, you can use either.

The Pathway is the only carryout that can see both. When you power up your 211 box you will see a menu that you check off which arc to search for.

Based on your earlier look with your smart phone to see which isnt blocked by trees, you select and it goes.

Small: Winegard sells a small single/Solo LNB dish that is designed to sit upon a table top or the like.. Very small. but.. Can do DirecTV (but not DirecHDTV) and can do dish (HD or not) But only one satellite at a time, Both Dish and DirecHD use 3.

Some DOME type antennas can roof mount (Others ground/table mount) and can do all 3 satellites for Dishnetwork, but only one at a time, so if all you have is a single VIP-211 receiver.. Fanstastic, but if you have a dual-channel DVR or multiple receivers.. Not so much.

NO dome can do DirecHD

Ground mount (Full size) dishes.. Do all the above, single or multiple receivers, no problem but they are bigger.

Believe it on not, even a Trav'ler will fit on the roof of many class B RV's. What are your needs and/or desires? How often will you use the RV? Do you currently have one service or the other at home or do you plan to have the service installed at home?
More details about your RV and your desires will be very helpful.
