Hello, all. I use so many passwords I thought I'd like to try a password manager. I have interest in Last Pass password manager.I'm a little nervous about my passwords floating around in the cloud. So my question is, "How secure are these PW managing programs?" Are you now using one? Thank you.

I use KeePass. It's free and you can download it here: KeePassIt has worked well for me.

I would not trust the "cloud" to keep my passwords. I do keep them on a secure flash drive that has its own password which, if you forget it, will destroy all data on it after 3 tries. I would rather take my chance with it than any "cloud".JMHO

You can always keep them on a piece of paper next to your computer. Otherwise your passwords are somewhere on the internet. You dont have to put all your passwords on Lastpass or keepase if you are concerned about security.

I'm also already doing what you're doing.My thinking was, if password managers are safe, well,why not use one to simplify things? I think I'll just pass on LAst Pass.

I have been using SafeInCloud for a couple of years. I'm very satisfied.

It works on Windows, Android and IOS.

There are two versions of KeePass. The Classic Edition does not have the 'Auto-Type' feature. The Professional Edition does. Both are free.

Does roboform fill out your username and password for you? I tried keepass and cannot get it to do that, so it is no help to me.

I couldn't begin to remember all my passwords, just too many of them. Roboform also will fill out forms and encrypt notes to yourself, and ask to store passwords when you fill out a new, or old, form/login.

Where are your passwords stored with 1password and can they be stored on a thumb drive?

I don't believe it's automatic like other password managers. They call it Auto-Type. Here's the link to their help on the subject.

I downloaded (keepass V1.28) and put it on a thumb drive and added a couple of entries, but when I try to go to one of these sites all it does is go there but does not put in (user name and pass word) to log me in?
Any idea what I am not doing right?

Though I somewhat alluded to the issue, an important aspect of using any password manager, be it software or pen and paper based, is that you'll need to input the sign-in credentials at some point in your browser. If your system is infected with malware, both ways can result in your credentials being stolen. Whether imputing via a hardware or software based keyboard.

You should routinely make sure your system is clean of any such malware, especially keyloggers. Which have the entry point to many of the recent credit breaches in the news. As they can be difficult to detect.

Malwarebytes Free is an excellent tool to do so. In fact, the only app that was able to detect my test keylogging malware.

Another is to use a keyboard encryption app as part of a layered security plan. I found these to be effective in blocking captured data, so long as they loaded ahead of a keylogger. If not, the malware could take control of the clipboard, and render it pretty much useless.
