Portable Dish Antenna?

Looking to take Dish Network with me and need to determine differences between Dish Network portable, automatic dishes. There seems to be a couple of manufacturers with a couple of models apiece. Pros and cons? We'll be watching a single TV strictly High Def. Suggestions?

Thanx,

Jim

  • Thanks to everyone for the recommendations. It looks like the X2 gives us better options. Although more expensive than the Tailgater, in the grand scheme of things, it's not too bad when considering I'll be wiring it to a land yacht. ;)

Since you live in Kentucky, you're in DISH Eastern Arc (61.5°, 72.7°, 77° sats) territory. For example, your Kentucky DISH local HD stations are all on Eastern Arc sats.

So the automatic portable you select should be able to receive Eastern Arc sats -- the Winegard Pathway X2.

Here's a summary of automatic portable (and other) sat dish options.
  • I've never used the Tailgater, but use the Pathway X2. Works perfectly for me. Also using a VIP211Z receiver.
  • The Tailgater will work, but the Winegard Pathway X2 has a larger reflector, meaning less rain fade, and it can use both Dish satellite arcs, increasing your aiming options. The Tailgater is western arc only.
  • We have the Pathfinder X2. It is 2 receiver capable, but we don't use that. We went with it for the larger dish, 1 cable does power/ sat signal and the ability to use the eastern and western arcs( which is very handy).
  • If you have a vip211k or vip211z receiver, the Tailgater works fine for HD programming. We have had ours for several years and are happy with it.
