I bought my wife a used Verizon Galaxy S4 (Unlimited data plan) that already had been updated to Android 4.4.2.......when I added Foxfi it makes me add a pin lock...which is annoying!
Is there a way to remove the pin lock like one could on 4.2.2?...Or is this Verizons latest attempt foil Foxfi users?
Blame Google - it's not Verizon's fault exactly.
To bypass Verizon's entitlement servers, Foxfi creates an encrypted connection (VPN) to some over-seas server... this is what turns on the wireless hot spot feature. To enable encryption on the phone, Android makes you choose a stronger lock, such as pin code.
There's no way around it on your phone if you want to continue to cheat Verizon's entitlement server.
A few solutions:
1) Buy a JetPack off Ebay or Craigslist and move the chip from your phone to the JetPack
2) Root your phone and disable the Verizon wireless hotspot app, and load the native Google app instead. The Google app doesn't need an entitlement server, so you don't need FoxFi to cheat
3) Consider the pin code lock as your friend; an unlocked cell phone is a real liability. You'll get used to putting in the code pretty quickly. Make sure you set it to randomize the numbers, so you are not typing the pin code over and over on the same portion of the screen.
