LOL maybe she doesn't need that to do facebook, some email and surf the web, which as a guess is 90% of what she is doing. I personally would regard your system as minimal but I'm not the average user as you probably aren't either. BTW I'm not sure you could buy a 3 [COLOR=]GB HDD any more...heh
As to the CDROM you can probably do without, there are still programs sold on cd but does she use any? You can always get a cd drive that connects using USB if you have to have one.
