+1 for what Mike says. I have A/B switch in line to remove the box from the equation from when I used Acutrac. I have also used a DTV "green label" splitter in place of an ASL-1 as we are not looking for the 119 anymore. Make sure you don't remove the PI from the equation to power the meter either. I now use a SatLook Lite that that provides the 21v to the dish so unless the battery is low, I no longer use the ASL-1 or splitter. Not sure I even need the A/B switch anymore but its habit.
I have added a cheap little TV to my kit that I connect to an RCA Video out pass-trough next to SatIn connector. That was easy as I just converted the old non-SWM SatIn2 connector. I can now view the box signal meter at the dish.
Throw in an Align-a-Site and its hard not to get signal quickly. Still Magnetic Deviation often enough, jumps up and bites me.
I always start with a plumb mast and a good compass shot. Both achievable the old way or now with apps.
