The interesting thing is that though courts have ruled state laws against Radar Detectors unconstitional there is a Federal law that could be applied.
This law says that it is 100% legal to LISTEN to a radio transmission (Radar is radio) but... You can not use what you hear for anything other than personal amusement in most cases.. You can not record it, take any action (other than laughing) based on it, you can not tell others about it and so on.
This applies to "point to point" transmissions such as between a Police Officer and his dispatcher, two cell phone users or a radar gun and itself after bouncing off your car.
But as I said, I have never heard of anyone useing it against a speeder who slows down (Thus violating it) when he picks up radar.
What I have heard of.. I patrol car with a blown engine, a always on radar gun hanging on the window and officer balloon in side (Officer Baloon is a blow up dummy (Balloon) don't you know).
