The QAM tuner is for cable searches. If you do not have cable do not use the option. You are looking for Over the Air (antenna) searches. This may work but could take longer since search engine is going through more channel choices found on cable.
When doing searches choose "antenna (OTA)". Some televisions will give choice "digital" channel search only with an option to also do "analog" channels too. Some models would do both.
Since the change-over many stations are adding more sub-channels (i.e. 5.1, 5.2, 5.3, etc.). You will find that your old channel 5 (ABC) might now be also carrying (CW or another network) on 5.2 digital and (ABC) on 5.1 digital.
I pays to do a new channel search every few months to find new ones added in your viewing area. Stations will try to remind people to do a new search if they add channels, but people will miss the notice.
It looks like you have already improved your view choices at home so the walk down to R.S. was worth it. Most of us spend more time in the "Stick-house" than on the road anyways. :B
I hope you can find the poor cable connection (or bad amplifier) to get the RV set-up working. The amplifier you have now could be taken and used for both after you get things working, or a second one purchased.
