The next thing for you to do is read the manual for your new TV. Find out if it has a "signal-strength meter" under the different menus. My 19" 720p Insignia from 2007 had one, along with the "add Search" (saves original search stations and adds new one found in a different direction).
My new 32" 1080p, LED, Insignia has the "signal-strength" meter along with the 5-bar meter shown on station "information" button. No "add Search" on this TV but the "new search" only takes about 3 minutes now.
Use the "signal strength" meter shown on the TV screen while on the Lafayette channel "3.1". Move the antenna direction very slightly in one direction to see if the signal gets better. If worse, move slightly the other way to get the strongest setting to fine-tune the antenna direction.
Now do another search to get more channels (if they have more). After looking at a map I think you have a shot at getting New Orleans after dark.
