Actually, the skip is in harder than I have seen in 20 or 30 years. If you really want to impress yourself, do some scans in the middle of the day from several directions and look to see if you have anything on channels 2,3,4, and sometimes 5. Recepition of 1000miles is not unheard of. This is something a Jack antenna cannot do since it has no lo-VHF elements at all.
These days, if you DO find something there, you will need to wait for a station ID to see where its from, and not a local with a virtual UHF re-assignment.
One of the best ones ive ever seen was in the analog days when a station in Great Falls, MT completely captured the local CBS powerhouse in Los Angeles for several hours. And this skip cycle "feels" about as strong as that one was.
