RE: Question on Sony DVD/CD Player and USB

I have a Sony DVD/CD player with HDMI hookup that I use attached to my TV for movies and musical CD's. My question is: if I get a HDMI/USB cable, will I be able to run the player from my computer? I have several programs I would like to install and to not have an internal DVD/CD player. THANKS. Happy New Year!!!!!
  • Thanks wildtoad. The reason I'm asking is that I would have to buy a HDMI/USB cord. There is no need to buy one if it won't work.
  • You can use the HDMI that goes from your Player to the TV.
But you have to have the HDMI connection on your computer. If you haven't looked at the computer, the connection looks like a USB connection, but is slightly different.
I don't believe there is a single HDMI/USB cable unless it has 2 seperate types of connection.
A USB only connection would not work unless the Player has a USB connection, then you would need a USB cable with the same looking ends, not the ones you have for you camera, etc.
  • It won't work. Get an external DVD drive as Chris Bryant suggested.

The adapters are designed to go from USB to HDMI, not HDMI to USB as you want.

To use the Sony as an external drive on your PC? No it doesn't work that way. That USB port on the Sony is for the display of pictures and video on your TV only.
  • Some good information here. THANKS! I do use the Sony DVD player to play musical CDs and run the sound through the TV. Works great! Happy New Year!
