The good news down here is at least now they have additional spectrum to build infrastructure in but it's currently clogged up by existing TV stations and one in proximity of the other ain't good depending on the channel the phone has chosen. I'm in possession of a modified T-Mobile phone built for engineering analysis of this problem and what it might take to get them to live together. Both LA and SFO have these additional channels and I've been able to get them both to work with minor antenna tweaks :) I just wish their coverage map really was a good as they advertise in the burbs.
It's definitely gotten better though. My in-laws live in rural Pennsylvania, and two years ago I barely got a 2G signal. Now I get 4G LTE. I can definitely see that they are investing in expanding coverage. They have to start somewhere, and expanding coverage takes capitol. They gained subscribers and are now making investments. I live and work in the DC area, so coverage is fantastic for my daily needs, but traveling on interstates it has gotten better there too. I recently took a 4,100 mile trip using Waze and mostly had good data the entire trip.
