Also, do you think it would be possible to just adjust the angle of the camera to use it as an aid to hitching up the boat then put it back up to see the rest of the boat? Or best to get a second camera to view the hitch?
Happy travels!
I use a wired system, with multiple cameras. I wired the truck, with a power / video cable, from cab to tailgate area. The cable is long enough to reach out to about 15 feet behind the truck. I plug in which ever cameras, I need to use.
Cameras:
1. Mounted on rear of truck camper
2. Mounted on rear of travel trailer. Trailer is wired back to front, with enough cable to reach into truck bed, where it plugs in.
3. Mounted on home made bracket that fits over front truck bed rail. Aids in loading the truck camper, and, I can use it on the rear of my utility trailer.
4. Mounted on home made bracket that hooks onto the truck's license plate, for hitching up trailers. With or without TC loaded up, I can put the hitch ball under the trailer coupler, on first the shot. DW doesn't have to hear "your other left", or "your hand signals are useless, if I can't see you".
In the cab, the power / video cable runs under the rubber trim around the windshield and up behind rearview mirror. The monitor clips on, over the mirror, and plugs in behind it.
Most of these systems come with instructions to tap into the vehicle's reverse lighting system. I didn't want to splice into any wires under the dash and I didn't want the system to only operate when in reverse, so, I made a plug that plugs into one of the power outlets in the dash. The system is on anytime it is plugged in.
My monitor supports two cameras, with a remote for switching between the two. There are monitors that support more.
A wireless system may have done the same thing, but, I had heard about reliabiity issues when operating long distance, and when I pull my TT, the camera and monitor are 50+ feet apart.
I bought all the parts (monitor, cameras, plugs, adapters, and cabling) on ebay.
