RobWNY, you shouldn't have to drill a hole in the cab of that new truck, should you? I've been researching much the same RVS system ... except three cameras instead of two, one rear and two side cameras. Looks like I could run the wires along the frame into the engine compartment and then there is a hole already drilled in through the firewall into the cab. There is a rubber grommet there which already have wires in in leading from something under the hood to the cab, but it looks like the grommet could be enlarged to make room for the wire to the monitor. The truck I have is a 2015, 3500 Silverado Dually, so I know where you're coming from about drilling holes.
However, that being said, I think I've decided to go with the wireless system but, I have a question that I was hoping someone would be able to answer. I want to use a three camera wireless system ... rear and a camera on each side of the TC. No problem with the rear camera ... the wireless is built in. But, and this is the problem, the transmitting unit for each of the side cameras are not built in AND they are not waterproof, so they have to be put inside. So, I was contemplating attaching the two side cameras near the top front of the cab over ... attached to the running lights there ... and drilling a hole and putting the two transmitters for those two side cameras into the the little storage compartment which runs along and above the head of the bed. Do you think there will be a problem with the unit transmitting through the camper down to the monitor which is just below it ... but in the cab of the truck ie. the signal has to pass through the bottom of the storage compartment, through the camper and through the roof of the truck before it gets to the monitor? Would that be a problem? Why wouldn't they just make the side cameras like the rear cameras with the transmitter built in and the unit waterproof, I wonder?
