One question, how do you know the proper direction is pointing? Is it by the arrow on the swivle?

The compass always points north. Set the phone under your antenna crank with the screen facing north and where the TV station are located on the screen of the phone...point your antenna there and you are dialed in. A quick peek outside while still holding the phone will confirm that you are on target.
If the front of my MH is North...my antenna is facing East when I first raise it, I pretty much know how much I have to turn the antenna if the stations are West....180 degrees, or half way around the antenna dial.
