All browser toolbars are there to monitor what you do on the Internet and pass it on to the mother ship to allow marketing to you. They should be avoided as others have pointed out by carefully watching the options on all programs you install. Plus they add a layer of processing that slows down the Internet experience.
Of course, the browsers themselves know what you do but that's a bigger issue and one that has both good and bad implications.
