Well, it does ASK you, if you watch very carefully and don't blink. I've seen it packaged with several reputable(?) programs. That's one of the reasons to always do a "Custom" install: that stuff will show up and you can deselect it.

Did you recently update JAVA? It comes as an option if you don't uncheck it to install. Nonetheless, ASK is considered a browser hijack by some, not just a toolbar.

If you still cannot uninstall it, you can try doing a System Restore to an earlier date. Or download and run this program which does not have to be installed AdwCleaner. Run a Scan then do a Clean.

Follow this guide.....It looks daunting, but it is really not all that hard. Just take it one step at a time.
