For the last week or so, something is constantly using my Hughesnet Gen4 allowance of 10 Gb/month.I am running xp on a dell desktop and I know it is the PC that is the problem because I have disconnected the router and connected the desktop directly to the Hughesnet HT1000 Gen4 modem. If I disable the connection on the PC, the useage quits. When I enable the connection it starts back up again.I have done a full system scan with AVG antivirus, Malwarebytes, and Spybot and found no problems with the first two, and allowed Spybot S&d to fix all found problems (mostly cookies, etc).I have connected a laptop to my router via ethernet cable and there is no problem as long as the pc network connection is disabled.I used netstat to see internet activity but I am obviously not smart enough to see the problem in the list. I also used TCPview to improve the way the netstat data looks but still to dumb.By the way, if i just let it go, it will use a gig in just a couple of hours with me not doing anything intentionally.Any suggestions?Thanks,danglo

Perhaps your system is doing a system file updates. It does sound like a lot of data usage however...I have my MS AUTO UPDATES set for manual so I can do these downloads when I am connected to internet using my home network connections... Just a thought...Roy Ken

Not only updates, but if you have ever used a peer to peer. It runs in the background to provide data to other users. Not only does MS have to update, but so does many others. Adobe has 3, java has 2 or 3, AVG updates every 30 minutes, and any program you have running will constantly seek updates. That's how they track your movements and choices. I turn everything off and update only if the software freezes or requires an update. Good luck

Thanks for the suggestion but at the rate I am using data, I will use up my 10 GB MONTHLY anytime allowance in about 4 hours, OK, maybe 10 hours.

Mine waz doing the same thing . Cut the useage back a bit by, shutting down the PC at nite time. Works for us , and now it's all happy-camping

I thought I posted my OS is XP.

I didn't mention that the transmit and receive packets appear to be the same and the usage is continuous, as though something is just receiving data from outside then re-transmitting it.

What o.s. are you using ? I have not seen task manager display %'s in the way you show it.
