I am upgrading my tvs in my MH and replacing some of the connectors on the RG6 cable, I have 2 different types of cable one is grey and one is black. The black cable excepts the new crimp on connectors fine but the grey does not. I am assuming it is RG6 but it is not marked. Are there different types of RG6? seems like the grey has a heaver brad on it (the outer one). Do I need a different connector? Both have foil.

It sounds like the grey is actually RG59 which is a tiny bit smaller and requires the proper connector. Or, if you are saying the grey is too large then it could be RG6 quad shield which also requires the appropriate connector. As a side note, crimp connectors work OK but you would be much better served by using compression fittings.

Look at the cable. there may be marking on the outside that tells what type of cable it is. Find the proper connector for that type wire.

You can see the difference in the thickness of RG59 and RG6 solid copper center conductor (RG6 bigger).

Just yesterday, I needed an RG59 connector and couldn't find one in my small town. So, I simply wrapped two wraps of electrical tape around the 59 cable and used a screw-on RG6 connector on the cable. It fit perfectly...

I agree with using the compression fittings. If you're replacing them you might as well use the better ones. I replaced everyone I could access in our MH, grey and black cable, all are RG6.

it is becoming harder to find RG59 connectors. i keep a few extra around. I wish rv manufacturers would start using all higher grade cable in their trailers.

IS the gray cable SMALLER (outside diamater)? than the Black?

If so it's RG-59 Never Assume unless you are assuming they will use the lowest up-front cost **** they can get their hands on and that is RG-59

The grey wire turned out to be RG59. I could no find any compression type connectors for RG59 so ended up using the twist on type. Seems to work ok. Thanks for all the info.

Yes there are different types of RG-6. Search the Inet to determine the different types.

If you need RG-59 compression fittings I have a bunch and would be more than happy to send you a few if you would just send me a message. I highly recommend you get rid of the twist on connectors!
