I will use BaseCamp to plan my routes. It is a free download from Garmin. You can plan your routes in advance on your computer.
The problem with not trusting it is, exactly when is that?
Short trips it seems to work O.K. I only use BaseCamp when planning long trips. Destinations close to home I will know if it's sending me astray. It's better than trying to remember a route or having to stop to read a map.
