RV GPS Recommendation

Google Maps on your phone! It's the only up-to-date mapping program around. You likely have already planned where you want to go before you leave so the GPS is best served by simply getting you there.
This is, of course, completely my opinion. I do use one of the latest 7" Garmin's in my coach but I bought it years ago. I will never buy another GPS and I use my phone to get me the last few miles to the campground to ensure accuracy.

I have a Rand McNally 7730 with a 7 inch screen. The length, height, and weight for the RV or RV plus tow or towed vehicle can be set. The GPS will then route you away from low tunnels and bridges. It can be set to avoid small roads and dirt roads. There are lots of other settings for warnings about going over the speed limit, approaching sharp curves, construction zones, etc. I travel by myself; the cat is no good about reading maps and gets bored with the smart phone or tablet, so I appreciate the step by step directions and the visual showing which lane to get in for exits and interchanges. Also the motor home speedometer is hard to see it some lighting so I find myself using the GPS speed indicator – much easier to see. I am very happy with this GPS and now that I am used to it, I find it easier to use than the Garmin in my car. There is a learning curve though, it takes a while.

I just use the standard auto GPSr with a box of paper maps as back up.

I have a Garmin DEZL760LMT which keeps track of my height, width, length and weight and does not route me onto roads where I will not fit. They make an RV specific version now, RV760LMT, which has campgrounds, etc as points of interest.

We also have a Dezl and I would just add a few comments. Around town we often just use our smart phones. It's amazing how often the phones lose the GPS signal. It is at least 2-3 times every short trip. The Dezl never loses signal. Also the Dezl gives me the speed limit as well as my speed so I can be aware of constantly changing limits in small towns and on secondary roads. Got a ticket near a campground in North Dakota in the truck because I wasn't paying attention.

If you like to keep up with speeds and speed limits you can use WAZE instead of Google.

We have the Garmin RV760LMT. I added the backup camera for our 5th wheel. Great combination!

Hi.. I have a Magellan. RoadMate. It has a good listing of campgrounds and very good soft ware for travel in and around large cities. After using it on a trip from colorado. To northern Ca. It made travel in unknown roads easy. One disadvantaged is the battery has very little storage capacity...I would buy it again. Cost was about $325 on sale at camping world. Jim2007

I have a Garmin 760 LMT with the BC-20 camera woks well.
Cells phones are OK I use Google maps a lot. However you can loose a signal at critical time or worst get a phone call and suddenly have no GPS available
