only one thing to be configured/connected to campground each time you move
Our thought was to do a hybrid of b & c with an router inside (c) and an outside directional antenna (b).
Thanks everyone for the great input. Can some share the distance that their setups reach?
the standard router plugs into an existing network
it doesn't have a wifi reciver for the antenna
its antenna provides the connection for the user devices not the originating signal
that where a repeater comes in, it picks up and redistributes the signal
they do the DUAL function of being an ACCESS point for you while connecting to the source
there may be devices that do it the way you want
but that is why i mentioned amplified wifi device outside
that will connect to the router via LAN cable or USB cable
should be available in omni and directional versions
a basic router does NOT have a Wifi antenna source input
that is something "range extenders" aka "repeaters" do
it does get confusing, there is so much going on with electronics
a cradle point router is a good example
they can use park wifi OR they can use any compatible USB cellular modem-stick/or Mifi connected via USB cable
to provide you with a internet connection
while called a router, it really is a Range Extender/Repeater
it has both functions
you might be able to add an external antenna or wifi device to it
