Once you have a Google Voice no. and install the free Google Voice app, you can send text messages over WiFi directly from the app.

Get a Google number, then purchase GrooveIP from App store. You can now use your WiFi only device to make free calls and send text messages. Your Google number will show up on called devices.

I use Talkatone for both voice and text on my iPod, and they show an Android version available. I use it with a free Google voice number.

If your cell provider is Verizon they have an Android app in the Play store for that.

I use dinamotext and it works good. Aside from installing it on a tablet, it also has to also be installed on an Android phone that is associated with the phone # used for texting. The two then communicate via wifi Internet. Steve
