Becoming Fill-timers we are overwhelmed with the new aspects we are learning about . . . We have 2 HD TVS. Is it possible to have a roof mounted satellite service that supports watching different programs on each of the TVs? . . . is it possible to have a DVR connected to only one of the HD TV's to record a program while watching a different program on the same tv?
For a full timer (like me), I'd suggest either a DirecTV Genie or a DISH Hopper system. Either one gives you the full capabilities of a home-based setup.
Both systems are Whole House (or RV) DVR systems that allow several HD TVs to be connected to a central DVR. Each TV can watch/record its own programming.
For either a Genie or Hopper system, your best (and easiest) bet is to install a rootop Winegard Travler automatic sat dish. This will set you back about $1200 - 1500.
When you're parked under trees, you can also use a tripod-mounted open-faced dish for either a Genie or a Hopper.
Finally, while they're fine systems for part-timers, for full timers I don't recommend rooftop domes or a ground-based antenna like the Tailgater, Carryout, Pathway, etc.
If you spend any time in the eastern US there are limitations to Dish and a Winegard Trav'lr. Best stick with Direct or avoid the Trav'lr. (That's from one who didn't and regrets it. )
