Satellite TV Service, Canada and Alaska

FWIW, I was able to get DirecTV as far NE as Halifax from my dome-dish.

When we took the coach up the inside passage our Winegard Trav'ler could still receive a DirecTV signal in Juneau. North of that nothing. I suspect that a manual dish may be able to be aimed a bit lower than the Trav'ler can, but at some point the signal will inevitably be blocked by mountains, trees and other obstructions near the horizon.

Dish tech support claims the Tailgater will work. But lots of folks here can probably give you first-hand information.

It's not that you're not supposed to use your DirecTV or Dish system in Canada, but that those carriers can't sell their services there. You can use your system anywhere you can get a signal. We used our Winegard Trav'ler to get DirecTV this summer as far north as Calgary, but the elevation angle becomes smaller as you go further north and it becomes harder to get a clear view of the satellite on the horizon.

You can get signal from your Dish or Direct dish, you just have to know the settings for the position you are at.......However, while in Canada, you are not supposed to. Here in Canada, we have 2 providers, Bell and Shaw...We are not supposed to use them in the US, but the last time I was in Arizona, I saw many Bell and Shaw dishes set up.
